F2 FX 100 V

The F2 FX 100 V belongs to the same generation as the SB 161, and just like this board the V grew some wider in the stern (the One-Foot-Off measurement) compared to its predecessor (the F2 FX 100 IV). To compensate for the larger planing surface the scoop of the V apparently starts a little earlier than the IV.

The inherent risk by an early starting scoop is well known (that the board sky rocket upwind and on a reach)  and to prevent this to happen F2 continued to provide the board with the famous/disputable variable plates for the cut-outs. Many sailors think that the only effect of the plates and the holes for "pressure equalizing" can rather be noticed on the sales figures than on the performance side, and consequently credible reports tell that even if the board is somewhat better than the IV it sail more or less the same way (of course, in a higher level), for examle ..

  • a little late to get in planing, that is a tendency to stall after a turn,

  • shall be pressed to the limit to go very close to the wind, that is you have to press the fin so much that the board is always in danger to leave the water surface,

  • very "free" and fast beam reaching and off wind.

If you primarily don't sail your formula board in competition (which is most often all about going closest to the wind without getting off the plane) the V shall be a very fine board. First up and planing the board has a very good and direct response and a superb speed. Are you mostly into competition the SB 161 shall probably be the best choice.
