F2 FX 100 VI

So far we haven't seen anything to the F2 FX 100 VI at this place. And having in mind the economic trouble of the F2 company (April/May '08) you shall properly hope for a reconstruction or a (very rich) buyer, if we shall have any chance to get a closer look at the board in the time to come.

For the moment the F2 homepage isn't very informative about the board, so the following is primarily based on some writings on the "Miami pro-am Forum" (http://pub38.bravenet.com/forum/3203506610/show/655366). The comments seem to be comparable sober - although perhaps a little prejudiced for the products of F2 (who is sponsoring the homepage!).

Most formula sailors acknowledges that among the strong points of the IV and the V aren't the ability to sail very well upwind, and that problem F2 seemingly has addressed. At any rate the comments at the  "Miami pro-am Forum" say that "... the board is much better upwind specialy in the chops ...", and that it has "... a much better angle upwind compared with the last year model."

Just like on this side of the pond the good formula people of Florida seem to have noticed the F2 formula boards classic strength in sailing very "free" - AND the classic weakness in a tendency to get airborne upwind in heavy air. But also this weakness F2 seem to have neutralized with the VI: It "... doesn't fly out of the water and is better tracking in choppy conditions." To leave no doubt of the superiority of the F2 IV it is stated that the board "... definitely outperformed the new ML and the SB 161 ...".

But how is the VI performing compared to the tendency of the predecessors to stall in the process of getting on the plane? That question isn't directly answered in the forum - but then you might note that Gonzalo Costa Hoevel pretty convincingly won the first international formula competition of the year (Calema Mid-winters) in very light wind (4 bullets in 4 races). So - perhaps this early planing problem has also been dealt with? Evaluating the Calema Mid-winters Steve Bodner (http://www.stevebodner.blogspot.com/) says: "So far the F2 board looks like the front runner of the 2008 new boards."

In summary: If the mentioned assumptions about the performance of the FX IV isn't totally wrong you'll certainly have to hope for the survival of the F2 company.
