First day on the water after the winter break (March 2009). With great expectations the guys rig their formula sails - but wait a minute: The mast sleeve in Paul's RSR 10.7 is definitely not looking sound! And haven't we seen those kinds of wrinkles before in lots of other RSRs before? Yeah, you're right, this all too familiar sight associated with Pryde race sails is a very clear sign, that the luff has cracked. And as expected, by inspection the luff turned out to be damaged around the 2nd batten sleeve above the boom (under the red dot). In the inserted red circle the disappointed owner wonders what to buy next.
Ole Tang brought his camera to the beach.
P. s.: Within the next month Pauls NP RSR 9.8 cracked in the same way and in the same place. What's the definition of a "systemic failure"?
